in the context of the 25th Aachener Kunstroute we host a lecture by Suleman Taufiq on Saturday, September 24 & Sunday, September 25. He will read from his works on the hour from 11 a.m to 6 p.m. Admission is free.
Born in Beirut in 1953, the German-Syrian author Taufiq spent his childhood in Damascus and, after graduating from high school in 1971, began studying philosophy and comparative literature in Germany. He has lived as a freelance writer in Aachen since 1972.
His work now comprises more than 36 titles. In addition to poems, novels, short stories and essays, he writes stories for children and translates Arabic works into German, as well as numerous German poets into Arabic.
Suleman Taufiq received the Literature Prize of the City of Aachen in 1983 and is a two-time recipient of a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture of North Rhine-Westphalia. In 2015 he was nominated for the European CIVIS Radio Prize and he is a member of the PEN Center Germany.
