Until December, 23, you still have the opportunity to marvel at and purchase the extraordinary installation with works by Julien Gilliam: as in previous years, 100% of the proceeds from our collaboration will go to the Hospizstiftung Region Aachen!
In his series "Fukuoka-Tokyo - an important journey", Gilliam focuses on his personal experiences in Japan, where he spent two months travelling over 3,000 km through the country by bike. He captured his impressions in photographs, among other things, in order to assemble them into individual compositions of shapes and colours after his return.
"These are analogue photos that we took during the entire trip, but we didn't know what to expect at the end. I tried to capture compositions and colour spaces throughout the trip."
This resulted in nine large-format pictures with names such as 'Overnight stay outdoors' and 'Good life'.
"The sometimes simple terms have strong meanings and are linked to very intense experiences. After two months on a bike and in a tent, exposed to the weather, you realise what things are important and how little is needed to be happy. On our trip through the hinterland of Japan, it was important for us to travel off the beaten track and experience the real Japan."
Gilliam has donated one of these 150 x 100 cm paintings and six smaller works (27 x 20 cm) to the charity. The small works are excerpts from the large motif, all unique pieces are painted with acrylic colours on wood.
