Tandem art exhibition
Galerie Am Elisengarten and Galerie 45, in cooperation with KünstlerMuseum ° Günther Beckers, are showing a tandem exhibition of landscape sketches and soundscapes in oil by Günther Beckers from May 25 to June 1, 2024.
Born in Aachen in 1953, Beckers studied painting and sculpture at the Staatliche Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and was a master student of Karl Bobek.
From 2000 onwards, he developed his Farbflügelbilder through intensive study of Asian art and European altarpieces. Here he assigns various rotatable and movable color wings to the core format, thus constantly creating new color and spatial perspectives. Color, form and content in a picture are thus completely liberated; painting becomes - analogous to music - time.
The exhibition section "Sketch for a landscape" in the Galerie Am Elisengarten shows, among other things, a series of such landscape sketches created in 2023. In search of a new surface, Beckers takes up an earlier technique and applies paint with a trowel, mixes it, turns the canvases and repeats the process. At the end, he applies a "veil" to his "pictures" with the help of a spray can, white or black. Sfumato.
At the same time, the Galerie 45 is showing soundscapes or picture-music-spaces. Since the 1980s, Beckers has been working intensively on the combination of painting and music. In 2024, he discovered that Caspar David Friedrich was already working on the fusion of painting and music towards the end of his life. The series "Sketch for a soundscape" is the result of painting, composition, contemplation and improvisation
The exhibitions will open on May 24 at 7 pm (Galerie Am Elisengarten) and on May 26 at 12 pm (Galerie 45).
The artist Günther Beckers will be present on both days.
